In her own words:
"Naturopathic medicine captivated my interest because it combines an understanding of biomedicine and other diverse modalities with the underlying knowledge that the patient’s own history and experiences often hold the clues to their healing journey.
I developed a curiosity about the causes of illness and the healing process and sought a career that would enable me to guide a patient through the experience of illness.
First, I wish to empower my patients with an understanding of the root cause of their symptoms.
Second, I hope to equip them with the insight, confidence, and support to restore a state of balance and inner peace.
After pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary with a minor in Management, I completed the four-year Naturopathic Doctorate Program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.
I undertook training in the areas of anatomy, physiology, and pathology, as well as other modalities such as botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, Traditional Chinese Medicine, homeopathy and hydrotherapy.
Through my work with patients under the guidance of teachers and mentors, I began to engage with the determinants of a patient’s health.
I explored my passion for the study and practice of naturopathic medicine in diverse environments which included the Anishnawbe Health Center in Toronto, rural clinics in India and the West Indies which broadened my scope and understanding.
I strive to embody the holistic approach of care by addressing all determinants of health including biological, psychological, emotional, and environmental through a thorough understanding of personal history, assessment of your current health status, and relevant physical examination.
I use electrodermal testing to help identify areas of concern and determine the best treatment options for the individual.
Over the course of my 10 years in clinical practice, I have observed that physical symptoms often present concurrently with significant emotional life events– trauma, a move, car accident, loss of a valued job or family member – and that finding peace with these events can be critical to the healing journey.
I seek to provide a safe space where patients can share their stories and emotions free of judgment and where we can explore solutions together.
I employ nutrition, supplementation, mindfulness, counselling and other methods with the goal of restoring a sustainable state of mental and physical strength, peace, and confidence.
Whenever possible, I emphasize a preventative approach and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle.
I am also passionate about facilitating a collaborative approach to health, working with other healthcare practitioners including physicians, psychologists, massage and craniosacral therapists.
My current practice involves the care of people of all ages and stages in life.
Watching patients find inner strength to overcome the adversities in their lives and find peace and love is my inspiration.
I am humbled by the willingness of my patients to share their stories with me and invite me to play a role in their journey to healing."

Electrodermal or "Vega Testing" can rapidly assess issues that other tests have missed or are simply not able to easily or effectively quantify.
Dr. Sumar underwent mentorship in electrodermal analysis with Dr. Gary Schafer in 2013 and 2014 and began offering this as part of her Naturopathic practice originally at Vital Health Clinic in Sherwood Park.
Dr. Sumar takes a substantial amount of time with every patient not only with her case taking but with her VEGA testing which screens you in areas such as: organ function (kidney, liver, adrenals, thyroid, lymphatics etc) , inflammation, infections (viruses, yeast, bacteria, parasites), Vitamins (B-Vitamins) and Minerals (Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Iodine, Copper), Histamine, Hormones, Brain Chemicals, Oxalic and Uric acid and many others.
Testing also includes understanding which specific Naturopathic medicines work with your body and can impact the specific concerns found through VEGA analysis.
