Background:Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain with diffuse tender points as well as significant fatigue. The precise pathophysiology of FM remains elusive. FM may be mediated by:
Hyperbaric can address each one of these areas - It exhibits anti-inflammatory effects, promotes neuroplasticity and impacts mitochondrial functioning. Fibromyalgia Symptoms:

Human Studies
Izquierdo-Alventosa (2024)A randomized clinical trial from Spain with 33 women with Fibromyalgia. 40, 90 minute sessions at a pressure of 1.45 ATA compared to control treatment. "The HBOT improved all variables related to pain (i.e. self-perceived pain intensity, pain catastrophism, pain acceptance..."
The control group showed no improvements in any pain related variable. Significant differences between the groups were found in quality of life after the intervention. The authors concluded: HBOT is effective at improving the psychological constructs related to pain. HBOT can improve quality of life among women with FM. Boussi-Gross (2024)A randomized clinical trial - 48 patients with childhood sexual abuse (CSA) related Fibromyalgia. 60, 90 minute sessions at a pressure of 2 ATA compared to pharmacologic treatment. "HBOT exhibited superior benefits over medications in terms of physical, functional, and emotional improvements among FMS patients with a history of CSA."
Significant group-by-time interaction for the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire favoring HBOT. Similar findings were observed in emotional symptoms and functional measures. The beneficial effect is correlated with increased brain activity / neuroplasticity in specific regions. Ablin (2023)A randomized clinical trial from Israel with 18 patients with TBI related Fibromyalgia. 60, 90 minute sessions at a pressure of 2 ATA compared to pharmacologic treatment. "HBOT can improve pain symptoms, quality of life, emotional and social function of patients suffering from FM triggered by TBI."
A significant reduction in pain intensity post-HBOT compared to the medication group. Fibromyalgia related symptoms and pain questionnaires demonstrated significant improvements. The beneficial clinical effect is correlated with increased brain activity in specific regions. Curtis (2021)A randomized clinical trial from Toronto with 18 patients with Fibromyalgia. 40, 90 minute sessions at a pressure of 2 ATA "[HBOT] is associated with improved global functioning, reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression, and improved quality of sleep." Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire total and all subscales were improved both from baseline to post HBO. Importantly, the effect seen were sustained at 3-month follow-up assessment. Efrati (2013)An active control, crossover clinical trial, again from Israel with 60 females with Fibromyalgia. 40, 90 minute sessions at a pressure of 2 ATA. "HBOT in both groups led to significant amelioration of all FM symptoms, with significant improvement in life quality." Analysis of SPECT imaging revealed rectification of abnormal brain activity. The authors concluded: The study provides evidence that HBOT can improve the symptoms and life quality of FM patients. HBOT can induce neuroplasticity and rectify abnormal brain activity in pain related areas. |

IV TherapyWe thought we'd highlight key IV treatments we're seen helpful: IV Myers Cocktail & IV NAD+. The use of intravenous therapy for the treatment of fibromyalgia was initially popularized by Dr. Alan Gaby. A published case report within a monograph about IV vitamin therapy discussed possible results that can be seen. The fibromyalgia patient had an immediate and robust response to the Myers Cocktail. "The author has given the Myers’ to approximately 30 patients with fibromyalgia; half have experienced significant improvement, in a few cases after the first injection, but more often after three or four treatments." The results our Naturopathic Doctors have seen mirror the experience of Dr. Gaby in our Edmonton patients. Massey (2007) conducted a pilot clinical trial, where 7 participants with therapy resistant FM were given the Myers Cocktail IV once per week for 8 weeks. All participants reported decreased pain levels, decreased fatigue, and increased activities of daily living. Participants noted increased energy levels within 24-48 hours of the initial infusion. At the end of the study, all participants reported increased energy and activities of daily living as well as a 60% reduction in pain and an 80% decrease in fatigue. Ali (2009) had 34 patients with fibromyalgia receive the Myers Cocktail weekly for 8 weeks. At 8 weeks, the Myers IV group experienced significantly improved tender points, pain, depression, and quality of life. The treatment effects of IVMT persisted at 4 weeks postintervention for tender points, pain, and quality of life, while placebo effects persisted only for tender points. Based off of the concept that impaired mitochondrial activation is etiologic in fibromyalgia our clinic started to use intravenous NAD in approximately 2018. Our first patient had an immediate and robust response with the regards to her muscular pain and the use of IV NAD+. As such, we've seen some patients respond extremely favorably from the NAD+, and we strongly consider its use in fibromyalgia, especially if a lackluster response is seen from using the Myers cocktail IV on its own. Fibro Treatment & IV Therapy in EdmontonRestoring Energy, Reducing Pain, and Supporting Healing at TruMed Naturopathic ClinicAt TruMed Naturopathic Clinic in Edmonton, we specialize in advanced integrative treatments for fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and pain syndromes. Fibromyalgia involves impaired mitochondrial energy production, oxidative stress, poor tissue oxygenation, and nutrient deficiencies that can perpetuate fatigue and pain. NAD+ IV Therapy for Fibromyalgia in EdmontonCellular Energy and Nervous System SupportNAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) plays a crucial role in mitochondrial energy production, DNA repair, and nervous system regulation — all of which are disrupted in fibromyalgia. At TruMed Clinic, we use NAD+ IV therapy to help fibromyalgia patients overcome chronic fatigue, brain fog, and muscle pain by restoring mitochondrial function and promoting optimal cellular metabolism. Benefits of NAD+ IV Therapy for Fibromyalgia
Many of our Edmonton fibromyalgia patients report improved energy, mental clarity, and reduced muscle pain after a series of NAD+ IV treatments. Typical protocol:
All NAD+ infusions are medically supervised and adjusted to each patient’s tolerance and energy response. Myers Cocktail IV Therapy for Fibromyalgia in EdmontonRestoring Nutrients and Calming MusclesThe Myers Cocktail IV — a blend of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants — is one of our most frequently recommended treatments for fibromyalgia. How Myers IVs Help Fibromyalgia
Many patients feel improvement within 24 hours — reporting less muscle tightness, reduced pain, and higher energy. Treatment schedule:
Iron Infusions for Fibromyalgia in EdmontonCorrecting Fatigue Linked to Low Ferritin and Iron DeficiencyLow iron is common in fibromyalgia patients and can worsen fatigue, brain fog, and muscle weakness. At TruMed Clinic in Edmonton, our IV iron infusions bypass the digestive tract and quickly restore iron stores to optimal levels. Iron Infusion Benefits for Fibromyalgia
We commonly use Monoferric® (ferric derisomaltose) for large single doses (up to 1,000 mg per session), or Venofer® (iron sucrose) for smaller, divided doses — particularly in women or patients with sensitive digestion. All infusions are performed in our Edmonton clinic by trained medical staff under the direction of our nurse practitioner. Hyperbaric Chambers for Fibromyalgia in EdmontonOxygenation and Healing at a Cellular LevelAt TruMed Naturopathic Clinic, we offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) — one of the most powerful tools for improving tissue oxygenation, energy, and healing in fibromyalgia. During hyperbaric therapy, patients breathe 100% oxygen at increased atmospheric pressure inside a comfortable hyperbaric chamber. This process dramatically increases oxygen saturation in the bloodstream, allowing oxygen to reach areas with poor circulation or inflammation. Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen for Fibromyalgia
Clinical research has shown that HBOT can significantly reduce pain sensitivity and fatigue in fibromyalgia by improving oxygen availability to dysfunctional muscle fibers and restoring normal neurological signaling. Combined Approach: IV Therapy + HBOTAt TruMed, we frequently combine Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy with IV treatments to maximize recovery and energy. For example:
Our Edmonton hyperbaric chambers are operated under medical supervision for patient safety and comfort. Why Choose TruMed Naturopathic Clinic in Edmonton
